Post 3210 antenae prob

Hi M8s,
Got a 3210 with no signal.
Took it apart and it looks like the contact that connects antenae is missing.
I moved the contact that connects the casing over tp replace the missing contact, I sometimes get a signal, and sometimes not.
Any ideas what is the easiest way to get a good contact with aerial (and is the contact with the casing important, I thought it wasn't because the circuit board contacts the casing also0

Thanx

try purchasing another antenna and that should work. if all fails, you probably have broken solder ball.

Got a chance to look at a good 3210 and noticed that the connector is the same as the battery connector ( two spring contacts in a black housing).
I think I will have to make a contact 'cos I have no old phones to use as spares.

P.s. I don't think this phone uses solder balls, it is moulded sintered type metal and ceramic or hard plastic.

Thumbs up

Ok, got it working.
This ain't pretty but if you have no replacement parts it will work.

Firstly the contact was missing and the copper track was also damaged so that only the through hole of the track was left.(very small)
I soldered one strand of wire to this tiny spot.
i reassembled the phone and passed the wire through the small hole in the antenae.

I then sodered the wire to the metal of the antenae ( soldered the wire into the hole).
You don't have to fill the hole, only make contact between wire and antenae.

Finally cut off excess wire, this ideally should be flush to antenae so that back cover does not interfere with joint.

Like I said , Not brilliant but it is a solution........

Hello guys!

Do you still want to re-do th at antenna connector? Theres a jumper spot on the board that you can use if the copper clad of the board is damaged. Its a long jump but its 100% sure. If you're interested, send me mail & I'll send you the bitmap I made.

Best regards,
Muscleman
