Nokia 3310 sim reading problem-any1 help please?

hello

i have used my 3310 for a few years now on the vodafone network without any problems whatsover.i have had it since brand new and the only thing i ever had done was have the phone unlocked so i can use other sims.

now here is the problem,

i recently dropped the mobile twice with no cover on it,from a very small height-by accident.when i switch it on now it says 'insert sim' even with the vodafone sim card in the phone.i tried using another networks sim in my mobile and it worked only briefly before saying 'insert sim' again!

i checked the contacts of the gold pins where the sim goes but no problems visible.if i shake the phone there is no sign of anything loose inside either.

any ideas.

would very much appreciate it as i prefer to use the 3310 as oppose to these phones nowadays.
