Member: 3360 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 4 | Cellphone-Controlled-Devices I'm coming up with a project "Cellphone-Controlled-Devices". The idea is by sending a SMS message to a mobile phone connected to a home computer (such as sending "JACUZZI ON") switches an external power on feeding power to a certain appliances (such as jacuzzi or outside light or opens a garage door). Then sends the device's status back to the sender (such as JACUZZI IS ON, or JACUZZI IS ALREADY ON). I already programmed the module to receive the SMS messages and by parsing the commands and parameters and by replying back to the sender. But the question is, does any of you have an idea of a circuit, especifically an ISA interface card, customized and with schematic available, to be able to switch a transistor on as to allow the flow of electricity to a relay. About 10 relays to be exact. Another aplication of it is monitoring a remote server that once server one is down, a separate computer sends the status to the technical staff and asks if to turn on the backup server (like "SERVER1 DOWN, SWITCH ON BACKUP?"). Then when technical supervisor sends a command like "SERVER2 ON" automatically switches on the backup server. Or automtically siwtches a backup server when server one is down by sending a command like "SERVER2 ON AUTO", which replies "SERVER2 IN AUTOSWITCH". Just needed some ISA circuit with schematic diagrams. Any ideas or sites?... Thanks. |

For the ISA card you might need to make a custom
device driver which is not easy.
There a lot of ready and tested solutions for that for the LPT. BR, Alex |

Member: 2100 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 40 | I was wondering if someone (maybee this includes your project Ice Dragon) has schematic or wathever
to make a alarm caller for my alarm installation in my shop. So if somebody breaks in the "thing " is going to call me or sms me? This sort of device are for sale, but these are very expensive.
GsMen |

BR, Alex

Hi Alex, it's good to be here again. It's a long vacation might as well use the time wisely. Yeah, parallel port is much easier that's what I'm telling these student-trainees of mine. (They're 6 all-female graduating ECEs on their 5th year trying to come up with an ISA circuit for practical use. Gals are too young for me though, ages 20 and 21). I'm meeting them again tomorrow. @GSMen:
The setup we're coming up with is using a computer, which could be an old 486-DX laptop, running on Windows 95 connected to at least a Nokia 5110 via a datacable. Yeah, the setup could work for you. All you need is some simple add-on circuits of motion detector, trip-off switch, or even a photo or infrared detector and a noise detector (used in a simple clap-switch circuit). Depending of what alarm was set off (if motion detector is set-off, phone sends "MOTION DETECTED", or something like "MOTION DETECTED AT FRONT DOOR", or backdoor or window or wherever.) And alarms can be set remotely by just sending proper keywords to the mobile phone connected to your shop-computer. The computer will only follow commands from a designated mobile number or could also authenticated using a login and a password if the owner is using a different mobile phone. It's a school thesis project actually but should be useful enough. Regards to everybody and cheers... [ 29 December 2001 19:03: Message edited by: Ice Dragon ] |
