Unhappy Help with EEPROM reading needed

Hi all,
I've tried to make a backup copy of EEPROM in my Nokia 5110 v 05.29 and I wasn't success
Please correct me if I'm wrong:
I disassembled phone (front cover&keys, then 4 screws from the back, white peace with speaker) and EEPROM chip is located in left upon display (looking normaly to phone). It's only one IC which has 8 pins (and - it has shorted 4 pins on upper side of IC, therefore I think it's 24C16).
And then I'd connect Ponny SI API I2C (schema is on ponnyprog www and I verified it on some 24C16) directly to the pins on board solded EEPROM. First I've tried to measure pin 8 if it has proper voltage when phone is on. It was near 3.75V (battery wasn't full charged) so I jugged that pinout of 24C16 is:
4 3 2 1
_______
_______
5 6 7 8

(still looking "normaly" to disassembled phone)

I've tried to run ponnyprog and read EEPROM but it tells "device not responding". Then I'd tried to connect external power of 4V to pin 8 of 24C16 but still "device not responding"

May be I have bad scheme for EEPROM reading, I've no idea if my scheme supports in-circuit connection of 24C16, can anyone help me?
I don't wanna destroy my phone while playing with unlocking, so I badly need backup....

P.S.: May be someone will gimme advice to desolder EEPROM and then read it. But it looks very hard to desolder it and also IC chip hasn't any mark of pin layout - it's very small to make my own and how should I recognize then pinout?

P.P.S: My phone is still working after all I did with its

Hello, I have the same problem but i'm trying to read 24c256 to no avail, because its says "device not responding". I'm using the PONYPROG SI v.2.2 with I2C Bus Adapter. I just bought it thru lancos. I think this hardware interface has a problem or error. Anybody who can help us?

Thumbs up

Hello
PonyPro funkcional full only on parallel \LPT\ ports with adapter "Easy I2CBus" and external +v. Tested 16-512. If this not work for you must wiev and corect your ponyprog.ini in directory PonyProg.

I suggess that you bay a very simple eeprom
reader writer wich you can find allmost every
where in net, I use my old ludipio eeprom and
pic reader it cost around 40-50$, just search
like:eeprom reader. Anyway I know that the pinout of the 24cXX (nokia 61xx 24c64) are
like this: back side

ground <---1- -8- Vcc

ground <---2- -7- NC

ground <---3- -6- Scl

ground <---4- -5- Sda

Use any version of ponyprog, I use old version it works with less problems for both
Com and Lpt ports, and experienced that ponyprog works as well on com ports.

Regards.

At first I must say that my interface *works*. I've tried it on new 24C16 eeprom which I was buy. But it wasn't connected to the circuit, therefore I'm asking. When I connect my interface to the phone it doesn't worked for me.

lotfi17: some time ago I was used ludipipo interface to read some eeproms, but now I though that it's better to use ponnyprog interface. But OK, if I understand well ludipipo is working with eeproms connected in circuits for you. I'll try it.
But I also fear that when I connect power to eeprom solded in phone I'll damage the phone. Phone has 3.6V battery and all eeprom readers has power about 5V. What about this? Is it safe to connect 5V to the eeprom on the board?

ARS: it's very hard to desolder this small piece of ****! But it's more harder to sold it back!

All: Is it really safe to use 5V power for reading de-solded eeprom?! Phone is using 3.3V technology, I'm not sure...

100% safe for these 24CXX.
sometime you'll need to dessolder pin 5 and/or pin 6 , when you get " device not responding".
You must ensure that you have ~5V at pin 8, if not , dessolder pin 8 too.
1|[]----|8--->to vcc=5v
2| |7--->to GND
3| |6
4|______|5

Is not problem to desolder/solder eeprom. You just need the right tools and some experience. You can try it on another ICs from totaly death phones. I ever desolder eeprom from phone and i use too 5 volt power suply.

Hi Baypierre,
Just want to clarify.
desolder the eeprom from the fone, connect pin 4 to pin 4 of the reader (ground)
pin 5 to pin 5 of the reader
pin 6 to pin 6 of the reader
pin 7 to pin 1-4 of the reader (ground)
pin 8 to Vcc 5v
and read
