Member: 5229 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 1 | Hi
I found this for you, read it and make your own mind up as to whether or not it will work. I have a 5190 SW 6.11. Nokall did not do the job on this phone. If you have
software older than 6.11 I would try Nokall first.
For 6.11, there are two websites that describe the procedure that worked
for me in quite good detail. They are for the 5110, but the 5190 is very
similar. The procedure is well established for the 5110 and quite safe, at least
much safer than flashing :
Illmatic's German Site
http://home.talkcity.com/MigrationPath/fairfax4ayaj/ Go to Unlock, Nokia 5110 v.5.29. I followed the instructions here.
In contrast to the picture, my EEprom was turned 90°, but Pin 5 is just the
pin diagonally across the marked pin 1.
In case you do not know German, the site below describes a similar
procedure,
but instead of shorting pins 6-7, you have to solder an insulated wire with
a 10 pF capacitor to pin 5,
put the capacitor to ground. Unlock 2-3 times. remove the capacitor from
the wire and unlock all
locks one more time. Worked like a charm for me! Dutch site in English
http://members1.chello.nl/~r.djoniman/Nokia/unlocking_v5.htm If it works for other people (which I am sure it will, if it is done correctly)
post it here, so that other people can see it.) Good luck |

I am going to purchase the cable today and want to make sure I have the right software. Also, do I have to have the sim card that came with the phone to do this?

It isn't as simple as buying the cable, downloading the software and period. I went ahead and purchased a Nokia the RS-232 (DLR-3P) data cable. However, when I pluged it into the COM 1 port to an old Windows 98 PC it didn't work. I tried it at my mother in law's XP PC which also had a serial port and it also didn't work. I went ahead and downloaded Nokia Tool Ver 1.8 and the error I got was: Failed to initialyze Local Mode Check MBUS Cable Any ideas or suggestions ????! Maybe I have the wrong cable? Phew..
