Nokia 8850 switches itself off...wierd!!!

I have recently bought an 8850 (cheap - no warranty). It worked just fine for the first week or so, now it's acting strange!
I switch it on, input PIN and after a few seconds, the display either crashes or it switches itself off and asks me to input the PIN again and then dies.
One source reckons it could be the software, but there's a 50/50 chance that reloading it will do the trick.
Any ideas before I start throwing money at it???

(PS I'm not at all literate when it comes to mobiles, so simple replies would be appreciated, thanks).

Problem with 8850

As I said, I'm not very up on the technical side of mobiles...what do you mean exactly by 'flashing'. With the screen assembly, do you mean change the LCD itself or what?
Cheers

change whole lcd screen assembly yes.
will solve your problem i think...

dont just change elastomer (connector) that will not do...

flashing is when u write a new software to the phone using flasher cables and files with software.
u must search dct3 flasher forum for details...
btw your post should be in dct3 8xxx section as it is older generation handset.

There's very little chance I have got the phone wet. I have taken it apart and there's no sign of any moisture, but thanks anyhow.

*** damn it don't people read, this guy doesn't know anything about flashing etc he isn't mobile phone literate, ok in my opinion i think it is something to maybe do with the connectors to the lcd screen or something inside around that area or it either has something wrong in the battery area, if the battery doesn't work the new one then i think maybe try looking @ the little pins that connect the battery etc.......if none of this i suggest you take it to a good shop none of these cheap shops that are illegal in little markets because they don't care if your phone breaks. Check out nokia maybe they have some kind of advice number in the uk to handle ur problem.
