Nokia 6600 joystick/keypad not working - GSM-Forum

Hi all,

I have a Nokia 6600 classic, and since today its joystick and keypad is not working.

It maybe because I accidentally dropped it today. It fell down the day before too, but that time it was working. Today its not.

The joystick is not working at all. And the keys have gone crazy.

If I keep the Menu key pressed for long, then the screen just fluctuates between the Menu Screen, and the main screen.

If I press the right select key, it fires up the function of the left select key.

What might be wrong?

I have opened the phone as far as I could, but now I have no clue what to do, as I cannot find anything else to disassemble joystick and keyboard further.

I have disassembled the phone as per this guide :

If anyone has any idea what might have gone wrong, and if I will be able to fix it myself or not.

If I give it to the shop, how much should they take for repairing it?

I forgot to mention one thing. Since few days, the backlight of keypad had been flickering a lot... going on and off. I used to play a game which involved the use of joystick a lot. This problem started since I started playing that game. After flickering for a few days, ultimately the backlight had just died.

Looks like it might be related to the problem.

First Format with */3/call buttons then Change the Keypad IC's

Brother first change the Keypad penal if same then change the keypad IC`s there is two ic`s..

By keypad panel, you mean the keypad membrane? Will I be able to do it myself? Does it involve soldering?

Is the keypad panel/membrane... and joystick assembly available separately? If yes, where will they be available?

I have disassembled the mobile, but I could not figure out how to open the keypad and joystick assembly.

Is there a Nokia 6600 service guide available, where I can learn how to open and change these parts?

I don't think I will be able to change the ICs myself, as this involves very small soldering. I think I may have to give it to a repair shop if it involves changing the ICs and all. How much should it cost?

I also want to know if there are some keypad shortcuts by which I can navigate through the mobile. The number keys seem to be working. So, if I can navigate around... I want to turn the bluetooth on, so that I can transfer some important data to my PC, like contacts, and take backup via Nokia PC Suite.

If anyone can tell me how to turn on bluetooth without using the joystick, I will be very grateful.
