Motorola Special code Algorithm

Hello to all,

I saw a thread in alt.cellular.motorola that says that the codes that Motorola has are calculated by a formula which I don't know if it works but I will post it here:

> ( IMEI/64 + IMEI^(1/2) + MSN^3 + IMEI/MSN ) / (first 5 digits of IMEI +
> first 5 digits of MSN) = NUMBER
>
> Enter the first 8 digits of NUMBER as the special code and off you go

with the best regards,

Rfthunder.

Mechanical Serial Number
The Mechanical Serial Number (MSN) is typically engraved on the phone underneath the battery pack. As with the electronic serial number, the cellular tower checks the mechanical serial number to verify that the phone is authorized to use that network.

MSN (also called serial number, SN/S), may be either 10 or 11 characters in length. The first 3 characters constitute the Accounting Product Code (APC). Typically the APC is not of interest to the field, with a single exception: the Express 850 is easily distinguished from retail Step-up models by its APC of 572. The fourth character is the location of manufacture. The fifth character is the year of manufacture, and the sixth character is the month of manufacture. The next four characters constitute the actual serial number of that telephone. Finally, if there is no eleventh character, the warranty period is one year; if there is an

eleventh character it stipulates a warranty period which may be determined from the chart below.

Lets see how it appears : considering Motorola Cellphone Serial Numbering as an example for better understanding:

Year Month

Code Year Code Month Warnt. Period Def.

---- ---- ------- -------- -------------------

H 1983 A or B January A - 1 yr P - 5 yrs

J 1984 C or D February B - 3 yrs Q - 3 yrs

K 1985 E or F March C - 5 yrs R - 3 yrs

L 1986 G or H April D - 2 yrs S - 3 yrs

M 1987 J or K May E - None T - OEM phone

N 1988 L or M June F - 90 Days U - 90 days(refurbs)

P 1989 N or P July H - 3 yrs W - 4 yrs

Q 1990 Q or R August L - 3 yrs X - 5 yrs

R 1991 S or T September M - 1 yr Y - 3 yrs

S 1992 U or V October N - 5 yrs Z - 3 yrs

T 1993 W or X November

U 1994 Y or Z December

Consider a Series-III tranceiver: Model No. S2447B with the MSN - 194ERN6175

Using the date chart(s) above:

194 **= APC

E = place of manufacture

R = year of manufacture ==> 1991

N = month of manufacture ==> July

6175 = actual serial # of telephone

Y = warranty period ==> 3 year warranty

This MSN is Located at the front or top of the mobile tranceiver and for a handheld portables located at the bottom of the handheld. Location of MSN may differ based on the device. So check out, if you can find the MSN for your mobile.

Maybe Motorola uses a algorithm similiar to this,because your calculated code is very similiar with the actual one.

"calculated 10692682 (first 8 digits of 1069268273786143)
actual - 76924982"

This is very similiar,maybe they use another sequence because

x692xx82 are the common part of the code.

With the best regards,

Rfthunder.

Exclamation

Hello fuzionGSM, how did you calculate your unlock code ?
I tried with Maple, a mathematics software, and I find a floating point value about 4 x 10^40 ! So it is very far of your final number. The first digits do not correspond at all with the 3 unlock codes I've got.

For example, how did you convert MSN to a number ? I tried a base conversion, from 36 to 10 (0-9,A-Z) => (0,9).
It seems not to work.

Can you give us IMEI, MSN, then the detail of your calculation ?

Thanks in advance
Regards

Benjamin

I digitalized it with the base_convert() function from PHP:

<?php
$MSN = "xxxxxxx";
echo base_convert($MSN, 36, 10);
?>

Does someone else have another method ?
