I know the firmware and software are different from the regular cell phone services like cingular and tmobile. WHat if you flash the firmware with cingular flash could these phones be salvaged to work on the cingular network? This inturun would be a cost effective way to replace lost or stolen phone.

yes, u r right just flash them and all ok, some need only factory default reset.
