not really

long time ago -the JTAG interface was accessable - to execute a Boundary-Scan test - to test connections between different boundaryscanable parts. (E-GOLD, GAIM, Halfrate-CoPro, DSP) Also ram and Flash connections were tested tricky, becouse they have no Boundaryscan interface. They generated 0x00 , 0xFF and 0x55 on Data / Adressbus- this was readout via the boundaryscan interface. (in production on error message was "ram Adress 5555 has not value 0x55").

But JTAG is not really accessable anymore.
JTAG pins are : TDI (TestDataInput)- TDO(utput) - TMS(TestModeSelect) -
TCK (TestClock) - MON1 (Monitoring1) - MON2 (always named "TESTPOINT").

Note:
Its long time Ago that i've repaired phones... there is no guarantee.

greets from sunny Duisburg

only one problem of cpu i know for this phones - not working keyboard!
other problems are the broken wires of PCB under the CPU...
i think there is no problem to desolder flash and look under it... no reballing need to solder it back `cause of HUGE solder balls

thats wrong, there ist also power-consuption if the phone is dead or cpu is dead , the value can tell you something about the failure.

I've written some essays about it in this forum - use search button.
