WIDCOMM Versions

Hello all together!
I have one question that has been bothering me for a long time: Which version of the WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software is the most recent one?

On Anycom's FTP Server, there is a version 5.5.0.3900 which is dated 7.7.2008

But when I emulate the official BTWInitialUpdate.exe utility from Broadcom, the update server says, the most recent is 5.1.0.4200 dated 11.9.2007

Very strange, isn't it? Why doesn't the official update tool send the most recent version number?

Greets,
Adi

PS: For all of you who know: Do I need to send another Hardware ID? I also tried it with USB\VID_0A5C&PID_2140 (which is the BCM2046 Bluetooth 2.1 chipset used in Anycom USB-500), but it gave me version 5.1.0.4200, too. I sent the following data to the update server:

BTWMESSAGETYPE=BTWSystemInfoRequest
BTWMESSAGEVERSION=1
BTWINSTALLEDHWID=USB\VID_0A5C&PID_2122
BTWINSTALLED=FALSE
BTWDISPLAYNAME=
BTWVERSION=
BTWOSMAJORVERSION=5
BTWOSMINORVERSION=1
BTWOSBUILDNUMBER=2600
BTWSPMAJORVERSION=2
BTWSPMINORVERSION=0
BTWPROCESSORARCHITECTURE=0
BTWSYSTEMLCID=1031
BTWSYSTEMMANUFACTURER=Hewlett-Packard
BTWENCODEDCLIENTLICENSE=
BTWCUSTOMERID=
BTWDEVMFGID=
BTWMSSTACK=FALSE
BTWDEVSECURITY=TRUE
BTWEOM=EOM

I noticed this as well. It seems that Anycom has developed and released newer versions of Broadcomm's drivers.

Frankly, I haven't really noticed any difference in the two. I've been using the latest Anycomm drivers but no major different.

One frustration I've had lately with these drivers, is that when a bluetooth device is disconnected, the audio device is removed from windows. This wreaks havoc with programs like Skype...I have to setup the bt audio again every time.

In older versions (a la 5.1.0.1100) it used to keep the device around always.

Sigh bt...

Thats true, the 5.x versions are for XP and the 6.x version are are for Vista.

We're talking about how there are various sets of the 5.x versions.
Broadcom's latest 5.x --> 5.1.0.4200
Anycom's latest 5.x --> 5.5.0.3900

So nobody exactly knows something about the version difference?

If Anycom developed their own successors, they probably would have had to license Broadcom's code. Do you think they did so?
There is also a changelog available.

The chipset in the product is BCM2046 which supports Bluetooth 2.1. As you can see in the changelog, BT 2.1 support was added in v5.5.0.3200.
So what's up with Broadcom's official drivers? They are quite outdated...!

Does the official update utility work for anybody? Please post here and tell what ID your hardware has! (Start → Run → "devmgmt.msc" → Properties → Details)

Adi, why don't you post your Q on the Anycom forum to clarify. I think it's a legitimate question. http://forum.anycom.com/index.php?board=27.0

It could be locked to the Device ID... I have a 2120 PID.
