the metallic shield in a v3 so that the phone can be unlocked....my options are:

1)hot air
2)dremel
3)....?

can anybody give me their opinion..?

No need direct unlock or remove RSA on version 8.26..

drilling is the best way.. offcourse u have to practice good .. search for vdos in motorola section will be help to u .. again try on old boards fist to minimize risk
