UFS_DCTxBB5 v2.0.6
--------------------
1. Dual Line flashing for BB5 introduced (Required UFS firmware V2.8 2007)
2. All avalaible phones supported (including RAPIDO v1.12, v1.13)
3. "Verify" function for BB5 added.
4. Latest Flash Update pack (7.40.35.29728) supported.
5. Support of Muxed Nand.

Do not use external VPP adapter with RX2 enabled cables, since this will put VPP direct to RX2 and its possible to KILL the phone. This has always been the case with 7 pin cables, but from this release 7 pin cables are supported by UFS+HWK.

Dual line = RX2 enabled cable or TX2, depends if you look from box point of view or the phone, since we are talking about cables, I prefer to use RX2 term, so yes if you want to use 7 pin cables you need firmware 2.8 and DCTxBB5 2.0.6 or later.

@Odia

Thanks, I have more question.

1. What if I will not upgrade my ufs firmware (stick with v2.6) and just use the latest Hwk Software
and 5 pins cable? Is is safe to flash BB5 phones?

2. I will upgrade my firmware to latest v2.8, does 5 pins cable still ok to flash BB5 phones?

3. Do I need to use the VPP adaptor when using 5 pins cable?

Would not advise this.

Some phones need dual-line to flash, so long as you dont want to flash the latest models all will be ok. NOTE make sure dual-line is not ticked when using single RX cables.

With the later phones (new NAND type) these is no need for external VPP.

Many thanks to Odia for clarifying those important questions. As I can see in all forums there is a lot of dudes about flashing BB5 phones. Mostly becouse of we are not sure about what cable to use for each BB5 phone.

Odia, you should pain attention to this. Maybe it's time to update you "UFSx Cable Schemas". Whe need to know what cable whe can use for each BB5 phone. I'm sure you will get all the help you need from your customers in the forum.

Resuming your answers (Correct me, please):

---
Would not advise this.
---
It’s important to update UFS firmware and use the latest HWK software to flash BB5 phones to reduce phone damage and increase the BB5 phone supported for flashing.
---
Some phones need dual-line to flash, so long as you dont want to flash the latest models all will be ok. NOTE make sure dual-line is not ticked when using single RX cables.
---
With the later phones (new NAND type) these is no need for external VPP.
---
We can classify the BB5 phones in 2 groups (if we want to flash them): single-line phones (older BB5) and dual-line phones (newest BB5)

Single-line phones
------------------
- You can use 5 pins (NOTE: make sure "dual-line" is not ticked) cable or 7 pin cable.
- With the later single-line phones with new NAND type you don’t need for external VPP but if the phone doesn’t have new NAND type you need for external VPP.

Dual-line phones
----------------
- Need 7 pin cable to flash it with "dual-line" ticked.
Please Odia, be more specific about: what phone are sinlge-line or dual-line, in what single-line phones you have to use external VPP, what's the resistor values in BSI lines for each BB5 phones, etc.

Thanks in advance.

When you use the software, if it does not force the dual-line option then the phone can be flashed single line, as for which phones you need to use external VPP, its impossible to say since Nokia introdced the new NAND type with same models, just later HW versions, 97% of the time external VPP is not needed now, but if its needed flashing will fail on erase.

Again with resistor values, this is dependant on the phones firmware version, for example you can have a 6630 at version 3 which will enter all modes without issue local, test and normal, but then you flash to version 5 and you get local mode failed, this is because the BSI threshold was changed on the later flash version, 3.3k will work on old, but now new, 5.1k will work on new or old, but still this resistor value is dependant on the phone type can be between >5.0k <10.1k (suggested values being 3.3k, 5.1k, 7.5k and 10k)

Odia.

About Dual Line

1.Since we don't know which phone needs dual line, is it ok If I try first not ticking the dual line, then
If I fail in erase, then I should try in dual line?

2. What if the phone doesn't need dual line but I tick it, does it have a irreversible effect in phone?

This is covered above, if the phone requires dual-line the option will be enabled automatic.

All phones can be flashed dual-line if you have RX2 enabled cables.
