Cool New to all this, comments much apprec

Hi guys, thanks for looking in on my 1st post.

I've had an SL42 since it came out.
Lost it a couple of months back. So I bought a 6688 from ebay.
Now after looking up flashing, it is now a Java enabled SLIK v56.
Was pretty difficult to find out how though.
All links were not in English so Babelfish was used greatly.
I have gotten thus far and have only just found out about this site.
Now I am really excited as I can read the contents w/o need of translation.

I have read the stickies including the forum rules
ie "Read every day the rules before post !!!" =)

I do have a few questions though:
1. Does flashing overwrite IMEI?
2. How do I apply/undo patches?
3. How do I apply/undo GFX menus?
4. When patches are applied are original settings kept anywhere?
5. My SL42/45 could record phone conversation by using REC button. It is disabled in phone conversation with 6688. How do I re-enable this feature?

I think these are the answers but I need confirmation:
1. I have No Idea. I hope not.
2/3. Use V_Klay => General Patch => Apply Patch / Undo Patch
How do I use undo (stupid q but I want to have full knowledge b4 trying)
4. No... but then how can you undo patch?!?!?!?
5. Patch must exist somewhere...

For the siemensfreaks out there what are your list of recommended patches?
I wonder if the bluetooth/battery for the SL45 was just a rumour???
Until the SL65 (triband, bluetooth,MMS) comes out, long live the SL45 and then some.

Thanks

Edit:
I have been slowly working my way from oldest posts to new posts.
There is a lot of posts.
I found SL45_fw56_slik_arman68_mod_v1.bin and my phone says wrong software after flashing.
From archives I found something about using logger and apply map.
I don't really understand what that means?
Anyways I reflashed the phone with prev .bin.
I tried logger403 but when I click on "Read Phone" it says data invalid.

You answered them nearly all by yourself
1. If you flash patch, No - If you make a software upgrade via WinSwup (as you did to transfer your SL42 to SL45i - I think) No. But if you use a FuBu (Fullbackup) from someone else (that means not the backup from your phone) or only the EPP then IMEI is cahnged. Or you use a tool like Freia - that can also chage the IMEI. But with the patches here - NO 100% save
2./3. The Undo funtion is in V_Klay - just click on Undo
4. You are right. The backup isn't stored in the phone. It is stored in the patches.
All patches use that format:
0x123456: 0aaaaaaaa 1bbbbbbbb
Adress old data new data

The adress shows V_Klay where to patch. Old data is the backup, new data will be written into the phone

5. ??? I don't know - my mobile is european

Thumbs up

Thanks CypherGhost,

I just wanted you guys to know that I do look stuff up.
I do the research and use search functions.
And I am not posting a new post due to laziness or wanting a quick answer.
I noticed a lot of posts referred to looking up old posts.
Unfortunately those posts are deleted as it is too old.
Well actually I DO want quick answers

I just want to make sure before I attempt anything that could possibly destroy phone.

Admins: please note that all links to Tutorials are no longer valid.

Can anyone give me a link to Tutorials on patching
V_Klay site is good but Babelfish mucks up the real meaning of some words I think

You loaded a Fullbackup into your phone, that means your IMEI is invalid. Use Freia to load your IMEI into your phone. Go to www.multifund.de - there you'll find Freia15

To unlock your phone make following steps
  • battery must be full, turn phone off
Start Freia, select modell - SL4x
Click on configuration, select old phones
Click on Unlock, use "Direct unlock, no map saved" method
Enter your IMEI in the field "NEW IMEI" - should be on your phone if you remove battery (Note you can't enter last digit, the programm calculates it for you - so everything is okay)
    Click on Ok
Press Red Key on phone (the phone should NOT turn on)
Wait until the programm says okay
That's it

EDIT:
What's map and log?

logs are used to create maps. A log always contents phone ID and IMEI number. More I can't say about that

maps is calculated through the log You can change Provider locks and change IMEI with maps

First step is to read out logs with the logger and create maps with mappers. But use the solution I write above.

Wink

So if I created a log beforehand.
Make a map from that log.
Apply map.
Everything should be ok? =)
Cool.
I just loaded up Freia15 before I read your post.
And created map and log before your suggestion. =)
Now with your help I know what to do with them.
Thanks again

No problem - I think Siemens phones are the easiest to flash patch and the SL4x is still a good phone (even if it don't contain GPRS, Colourdisplay, Polyphonic, Bluetooth, MMS)
