Exclamation Hacking X5 vs X6 firmware

I'm sure that question has been beaten to death already, but still haven't seen a definite answer... Does anyone know what are the exact diff in siemens firmware X5 (900/1800) vs X6 (850/1900) and where they are located? To make myself clear - i.e. are these just a bunch of parameters (like band freq setting, calibration data, etc) located in some particular blocks and sharing otherwise the same firmware code, or it's multiple code changes which are spread all over firmware? If first, then it could be possible for some bright mind to identify these changes and provide a patch/script to allow trully X5 -> X6 convertion, i.e. flash with opposite band firmware and then applying patch/script to restore original band freq or restore particular eeprom blocks which hold these settings. If it's later, then it would be a moot point, of course, because of the complexity of changes.

Why I'm asking? I'm getting a Cingular-branded S56 which has NO firmware updates whatsoever since its release (read: plenty of firmware bugs still unfixed) and has many nice features disabled in customized cingular firmware. I'm looking into possibility to flash it with recent S55 unbranded firmware (with language pack of my choice, not just us english/hispanic), but of course need to be able to restore original band freq settings for 850/1900 bands we use here in US.

So, anyone with knowledge can sched some light here?
Thanks,
-albertr
