Hi!

Im from a small country Slovenia(near Austria).
I have buyed the F480 and the firmware is:
F480BUHG2

Is this a good firmware?
If i upgrade it to the latest firmware(F480XEHJ1?) will i still have the Slovenien language?

And what are the new widgets in the HJ1?

Tnx you very much!

nice to have a new member here, to know about the f/w you will need to read through the thread, all f/w has it's advantages and disadvantages, it depends on what you want, a newer f/w doesn't mean it's the best, so read through and you'll have your answers.

Btw, don't bother flashing to try the F480DXHI2 firmware. I just bought an open-line, unlocked F480 here in Manila (Philippines). It had the F480DXHI2 firmware. So it's the proper region firmware that was released in September, which is the latest here. Unfortunately, it felt kind of slow compared to the reviews I read. But I was really able to confirm that it needed updating when I noticed that it didn't even have the option to change the main menu style to black. That's why I was surprised to find out that it was actually the latest firmware here...unless the guys who unlocked it inadvertently erased something from the firmware. The camera was also barely better than my SE P990 or my K750 (both 2mpx). Maybe someone from the region with the firmware working can confirm these about the DXHI2? I didn't bother trying out the link here since someone who did had his phone hang.

So I flashed to F480XXHF7 and was very happy with it. When I read that newer firmwares were available, I tried out the F488ZHHJ1 that, in terms of code, is the newest one, which it is, since it's the only one as of yet with the option to change "skin" color (actually it's just the highlight color, which can be switched from blue to pink in settings). But I noticed that, to accomodate more language character options (the default is Chinese), the fonts in english look more angular/pixelated than in HF7. So I tried flashing back & forth between HF7 and the newer F480XEHJ1. They're almost the same, except HJ1 has more widgets, and I'm not really sure if it's slightly faster or it's just my imagination. Also, I noticed that HSDPA signal is more quickly detected and locked onto in HJ1. In HF7, I get mostly Edge, sometimes UMTS. Comparisons are done in just one spot: in front of my office computer.

So I'm sticking to HJ1 for the moment. As this is getting a bit long, I'll make another post on my findings regarding the camera.

the newer f/w does take better pic's in low light conditions, as for F488ZHHJ1 f/w there is one thing I dont like, when the phone is switched off and on, the memory card is not auto detect, and will ask for a reformat, you will need to eject the memory card and re-insert for the phone to detect it.

try it out an see if this is the case with your phone, or it cound be a Bad flash that samsund did for me.

This problem was not present on any of the previous f/w.

I like the F488ZHHH1, it much faster, stable and the camera's auto focus has faster focus, and the screens touch sensitivity is more responsive, the only thing I like about the new f/w, takes better pic's even in low light conditions, and extra wiget icon, especially the bluetooth.

I'm a shame to speak, I haven't flashed a single samsung phone, all my phones are official hk version, so I get samsung to do it for me free of charge, I have tried the update, but I get not supported, it detects its a F488 version for the asian market, and not a F480 used for other markets.

that said, I do flash other phones especially motorolas.

I just have tried this with my F480 and I got following messages in different windows(translated):

"Connecting with update server"
"Checking update information"
"Downloading update files from Server"
"Checking update information"
"reading phone software version"
"Phone software updater does not admint connected model. Thank you for checking"

I have to add that for several times I got this message:
"Not possible to connect to update server.
Internet connection or sever not available. Check you can connect Internet first and try again"
after previous 2nd message and also after 4th message.
I got similar error messages in the middle of las 3 steps.
I just insisted.
