Samsung Firmware Format Specification

Hi,

Is there any documentation floating around that describes the format of samsung mobile firmware?

I would really like to have a go at modifying the existing firmware of the z510 myself, instead of having to ask others to do it, but don't have any idea on the format of the firmware binaries.

Cheers.

Ok so I now know that I can use Z510_RscEx to modify the resources, but what about the code side of things, does anyone have some info that might help me out? Also the preconfigured network settings, what binary would these be stored in?

Cheers.

Wow, I am really suprised that nobody has any info to offer me. After seeing all the people who are flashing their phones I figured there must have been others around who were trying to modify the firmware that would be willing to offer some advice, anyway...

If anyone is interested I have managed to work out how to modify the default network settings so that only those I want are visible, having done this though I am now very eager to go deeper and really start modifying the firmware and removing all signs of branding, next I will be going after the locked content, I really want to be able to delete the default stuff, or maybe even modify the firmware to install other content (not superlocked) instead of the default stuff.

So if anyone happens to see this and has some info that might help me out I would appreciate it very much. I am particularly interested in knowing what the difference between different language firmware is, is it just a matter of default language or are there other hidden settings that are specific to the country of origin?

If anyone wants to know how to remove the preconfigured network settings just let me know and I will write a quick guide for you, the current method allows you to preconfigure up to 4 connections (when using Z510AIEL2_xxx), I plan to change this but for now it is a suitable solution. I haven't looked at other language firmware as I don't have any, I would really like and english firmware plus other languages, this way I could check for the differences myself.

Cheers.

What a suprise !? Not a suprise !
Well, do you have microprocessor programming background ?

I know some people in this world (other than those internal system engin.) have this knowledge can re-program the firmware,
such a pity that you cannot reach them here....

Hey,

I have alot of programming experience and also a decent amount of systems programming experience, I have no doubt that I have a solid enough background to learn this stuff relatively quickly, I guess I was just hoping that someone could point me to some documentation or something that would get me started.

Reprogramming the firmware would not be that difficult really, providing that you know the "language" of the processor and how to communicate with the various hardware components. That is where the documentation comes in, or hit and miss experimentation, this is exactly what I am hoping someone might be able to help me with.

I guess the only problem is finding people who have the knowledge AND are willing to share it...

Cheers.
