They use the features of their mobile net as the phone reports its position to the transmitters of the cellular signals in a pre-defined period of time. I think it would be quite hard to build a gsm locator without having the ability of using the internal data of the mobile company. But if somebody has further information please post it in the forum. In my Alcatel phone, there is this monitor mode, and I can see in which cell I am in. Now we want to monitor somebody elses phone. Theoretically, we'd have to know the code his/her phone is sending to the operator and sniff that, link that to a chart with cell codes/locations. So the next question is: Does anybody know if it is possible to 'sniff' somebody's cell phone?
