Hello guys,
I am absolute novice to phone unlocking so if anyone could guide me through the process of unlocking the phone it would be higly appreciated.

Phone is Samsung's 709SC model for Softbank. I do not know how to check the software version (I bought the phone in Japan in April 2008 and since then never updated anything). In my home town no one is able to unlock it (nobody even tried).
I am reading here and there on forums that it is possible to unlock but I need guidance to do it.

So, again, if anyone could guide me through the process of how/where/when/etc. it would be great.
