Identifying iPhone models


Be sure you have the latest version of iTunes software.
To check your iTunes version on a Mac,
choose iTunes Check for Updates. In Windows, choose Help Check for Updates.

To ensure that your Mac or PC is compatible with your iPhone
check the system requirements for your model








Identifying features

iPhone 5

The model number on the back cover is:
A1428 on the iPhone 5 (GSM model)
A1429 on the iPhone 5 (GSM and CDMA model)
A1442 on the iPhone 5 (CDMA model, China)
The front surface is flat and made of glass.
The back housing is made of anodized aluminum.
There is a SIM tray on the right side that holds a "fourth form factor" (4FF) or "nano-SIM" card.
The IMEI is etched on the back housing.




iPhone 4S

The model number on the back cover is:
A1431 on the iPhone 4S (GSM China)
A1387 on the iPhone 4S
The front and back surfaces are flat and made of glass.
There is a stainless steel band around the edges.
The volume up and down buttons are marked with a "+" and "-" sign.
There is a SIM tray on the right side that holds a "third form factor" (3FF) micro-SIM card.


iPhone 4

The model number on the back cover is:
A1349 on the iPhone 4 (CDMA model)
A1332 on the iPhone 4 (GSM model)
The front and back surfaces are flat and made of glass.
There is a stainless steel band around the edges.
The volume up and down buttons are marked with a "+" and "-" sign.
The GSM model has a SIM tray on the right side that holds a "third form factor" (3FF) micro-SIM card.
The CDMA model does not have a SIM tray.
