locked or neverlocked iphone 4 mc603kh

hello friends, I have a problem I bought an i4 16g, with following imei 012535009356321, and serial 7s046sqa4s,an the guy who sold it told me that the device it`s from Korea and neverlocked, I didn`t had at the moment a microsim to try it and now when I do, it seems it`s locked, contacted the seller and told me that i need to upgrade to latest IOS to get the unlock, I am now on IOS 4.3.1 and firmware 04.10.01, can anyone tell me witch carrier is locked to or if it`s neverlocked, because at the moment I could use it with a gevey but if i upgrade and it turns on that is not neverlocked i will lose this possibyliti.

any advice will be appreciated so please help

You will need to used an Iphone network finder service to find out which network it was on, if it came from Korea then I doubt if a Factory unlock is available.
Fone-Tek, Mobile Phone Unlocking Server offer the network finder service and they offer factory unlocks

Do not upgrade to 5.* whatever you do. You can use a Gevey sim to unlock your phone whilst it is still on 4.10 baseband.

Don`t really remember where I have read that in South Korea are 2 networks : KT and Olleh and one of them only sells factory unlocked, found a simmilar case on a forum after updated recived a carrier update notification, quote :

"Hello, I was just giving an iPhone 4 model MC603KH from my cousin who was living in Korea. I just wiped it clean and restored it to regonize my pc. After I restored it iTunes gave me a message "update for carrier available" so I updated it. After I udated it iTunes gave me a message stating my iphone was now unlocked. I would like to know am I now able to use it for AT&T, Verizon, or tmobile? I only ask because I have read on other forums that this model cannot be unlocked due to the carrier that sells this model. Was that forum wrong or had iTunes fixed it so I can now use it here in the state."
