Problem:Jailbreak/Unlock Iphone 3gs 4.2.1 05.15.04 - GSM-Forum

Hello everyone,
I apologize in advance for opening this topic as I know it has been opened many times and also Rizwan gave some explanation on a thread about how to do the various unlock and jailbreaks on iphones with this version and basebands.

The problem is I am still confused.
Mostly the phones with this firmware are on the baseband 6 and upward and mine is on 05.15.04 baseband

is it there any tool that lets me jailbreak and unlock it? i mean which version if redsn0w is allowing to do it if it does?

Yes bro, try to jailbreak with redsn0w, then unlock the phone with ultrasn0w and your phone will be working.
If you have some other problem like - after restart after jailbreak freeze on apple logo use GREEN POISON to fix it.

you cannot unlock 05.15.04, you can JB if you want(use greenpois0n)

you need to wait until the newer version of ultrasn0w is out.

Thank you for the answer, it was great , I am going through the process right now.
But i have one question, by updating the baseband to the one used by ipad it says I will not be able to update or downgrade my iphone!

does that mean that if in case my phone gets some problem and i need to restore the firmware ,the restore wont work anymore through itunes?

after upgrade modem from 05.15.04 to higher you will not be able to downgrade it.
i have also 3gs with modem 05.15.04.Now it is jailbraked with gp_win_rc5_b2 and this fix problem with stucking on boot after phone was powered off and on again.
I try to unlock it with redsn0w_win_0.9.6rc8(ultrasnow1.2).
Everything pass good.
Phone looks like unlocked ,but no service.

I did NOT upgrade baseband,it is still 05.15.04.

I do not know will upgrade bb solve this problem.!?

I have already been through the procedure.
so here it is what I have done:
My Iphone 3gs was on 4.2.1/ 05.15.04 baseband
• I used redsn0w to install cydia and upgrade the baseband to 6.15.00
• note: here once jailbroke you cant use cydia, to use it you have to use redsn0w again, load the same firmware ,uncheck all the boxes and check the box “tethered now” which will reboot your iphone and allow you to use cydia.
• -open cydia and install ultrasn0w
• -note: Once the reboots chances are high that you get stuck on the apple logo which keeps rebooting, to solve this:
use greenpoison and in DFU mode jailbreak, you will be able to get on the main screen and use your phone.

The phone I have seems to be barred as I dont get any signal and tried different simcards but I think its unlocked because I used the virgin sim card and gives full signals.

upgrade basband with redsn0w_win_0.9.6b5_1..u problam will be solved now ..

worked 100% for me

thanks i used the ipad baseband upgrade and cydia with redsnow 0.9.6.b5

Downloaded greenp0ison. iphone 3g with 4.2.1. Firmware 05.15.04. I shut off phone, connect to usb, lots of bells from the computer as if hardware being attached. itunes doesn't come up but when I go through the greenpoison timing nothing happens at the end; it just goes back to 'try again'? iphone needs to be hard rebooted to get back to the apps. Help!

Firts of all make sure that the driver are installed properly.
Do this:
Put the phone in dfu mode and check if itunes recognise your phone in DFU mode(if it does it will ask you to restore)-DFU mode is when the screen is fully black and not with recovery logo.
If it gets recognised then close the itunes window and open greenp0ison and then you will see that greenp0ison will say if you want to jailbreak
click on jailbreak and let it run
