Try without battery.
When desctop manager says waiting to connect to jvm put battery in.

We cannot give you exact instruction because we dont have the phone in our hands you will just have to try.

Try on a different pc, remove desctop manager and install again.
By the way did you try it without battery?

A had a same problem with a bold a few months a go and i tried it on my laptop and got it to work again.

I think these problem occur mainly of the built in 1 Gb memory.
Thats why some many bold die ie red blink.
If nothing works just take out your battery and leave the phone for 36-48 hours. That the amount of time the small capacitors will drain completely,
and hopefully your phone will be fine.

Also you can try directly running your update from
Crogram files/common files/research in motion/App Loader
there open the loader exe and connect phone. Try with or without battery.
