New Firmware, On/Off function in software

Hi,

Here the new update of the Genie Firmware. We have tried to fix some issues
pointed out by users regarding power On and Off.

-----------------------------
v 0.0.0.146 - 02.12.2008

- Now it is possible to put the
device in Sleep mode by pressing
and holding the '1' key for 4 seconds
This will reduce power consumption and
act as off mode as requested by many users
Current power consumption on release devices
in main menu from battery is:

- nomal mode/lcd on: 77 mA
- nomal mode/lcd off: 42 mA
- sleep mode/all off: 14 mA

NOTE: Removing the SD card will decrease the
Sleep power consumption to 10 mA!

- Bug fix on flashing Pawn api
- Fixes on LCD backlight off and Sleep timeouts

Download from here. No need for registration to download.
You can get the update also via the GenieClient.exe.

Some people before complain that can't unpack the zip file. We
have tested on:

- Windows XP SP2
- Windows XP SP3
- Windows Vista
- Linux
- MacOS 10.xx

If you get problem unpacking, maybe you use some badly cracked version
of the zip unpacker. All above mention OS-es support unpacking zip files
natively.

Some power saving tips:

1. Device will go to sleep by itself after 1-2 minutes if not used and if no
application/script is running. If the charger/usb is plugged, the device will
not enter sleep. So sleep mode works only on battery

2. Sleep mode is a software power off mode. But because not all HW is
disconnected some idle consumption will still drain power. If you have
1680 mA battery(ideally), Genie should be able to last a week in Sleep mode

3. Drain in Sleep mode is arround 14 mA(same as my EEE laptop in completly
off state). Removing the SD card if device is not used for long time is a good
idea, it will bring down the current drain to 10 mA.

4. To switch off device - unload running application, press the '1' button,
hold it for 4 seconds, then release. The LCD should go off

5. To wake up - same procedure as before, press '1' for 2 seconds and then
release.

Regards, Alex

Hi,

is it possible, that under the download-linkfor the 1.46r in the page from Genie is the old Fimware v1.43r ?

I've downloaded and extract and put into system. But when i start the Firmware-Update i get the message checking update and use charger. Nothing else, no restart!!!
After manual restart the v1.43r was active again.

Whats the matter?
Can you help me please?

Hi,

Please check in the About menu. The battery voltage should be above
7.5 V to be able to update the firmware.

The most safest option is fully charged battery and plugged charger,
so in case the power is disconnected during update, the process will
succeed.

Hi my friend,

i've downloaded the archive on genie-universal in the esction download.
All seems ok, but after decompressing the archive and put the file into the system folder on the SD-Card and starting Mode Firmware Update with fully charged battery and attached cahrger nothin happens!!!!
After 10 minutes i go back make an reset and have the old 1.43r-Firmware on the Genie

Then i get a mail from you with a link to the Genie-Forum.
I've downloaded the archive linked in the forum-post and try to unpack.
No way, i've downloaded the archive again and again. Always i get the error that the archive has an unexpected end and can not unpack.

Whats the problem?
It seems that after the downloadlink in Genie Section Download has the "old" Firmware and the archive in the forum seems corrupted!!!

Please attach again the new firmware in this forum to download!!
It can't be so impossible to postz the firmware here in this sticky thread, so users must after the announcement not searching on other forums.

Jomafi

Hi to all,

The new firmware is on the update server.
You can just use the Genie client and download the update to your SD as usual.
Then update the OS.

Best regards
Danny

Hi,

This is a feature, not bug. LCD backlight will go off after some time, regardless
of power source. Just press any button to put the backlight on.
