By the way: that kind of osciloscopes do not allow voltage over 4 volts to be present on it's input, otherwise you will burn it. Spectrum analizers are used insted of them on such frequances. Member: 12318 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 5 | Hi Knowlage goes with practice so there is no point to change location on that. Same with luck , if You have knowlage than luck will follow it. Yes , 300 or 500 Mhz oscilloscope are expensive and should not be the first choise, but they are much more accure in measurements on high freq digital signals than spectrum analyzer.Use X10 (x20 , x50 , x100) devider on oscilloscope prob and You will increse measuremant range from 4V for ex. , that way load on measuremant point will be lower too. Newer oscilloscope have excessive voltage protection. Of course , all depanding on model and specifications Rgs Poca |

An OSCILOSCOPE will show time Vs amplitude of a signal. the "x" axis will be the time An SPECTRUM ANALIZER will show the spectrum of the signal; that means: The signal in the domain of frecuency. the "x" axis will be the frecuency. How much energy of that signal is in what frecuency. If you don't beleave me, you can find what is the spectrum of a signal f.e. in: Signals And Systems OPPENHEIM-WILLSKY-HAWAS; Pearson Ed. | |

Briefly, the Oscilloscope shows you the amplitude or the strength of a particular signal on it's screen in relation to time (normally referred to as the waveform of the signal), whereas a Spectrum Analyser will show you the response of a select circuit or a module to various frequency signals in it's required working bandwidth (required band of frequencies), so the response in term of signal strength will be displayed on the vertical or Y axis of the analyser in relation to the frequency spectrum represented by the horizontal or X axis. |
