check antenna first (number 6)

try to replace it and check again if still grey out

if no luck, check coil above bt/wifi ic and capacitor on the left side

i fixed more than 5 pcs 3gs no wifi problem and all solved

be careful, do it step by step

right! it's the wifi IC. Change it, or try to warm it up with HotAir Solder. Some IC work after this procedure. I have 3 Phones they work with upheating since 3 month without problems. Some other i must change the IC . But work very carefully!!

I had the same problem, fixed it with this:
YouTube - iPhone WiFi Repair: Heat Gun Reflow

After the third time reflowing with the heat gun my wifi started to work again.
I reflowed the wifi the third time a bit longer than in the tutorial and I also heated the bluetooth ic (the long one next to the wifi)

Hope I could help!

You can change the wifi-ic? I'm sorry, but you have an idea around dimensions of this ic? It's very small, is glued with resin (I think) on a square board and around this are a lot of components.. you've tried?

best recommend you to buy a spoil motherboard and tried it there. it taken me 3 to 5 3gs motherboard and was even working for some and pay around with it. in which most of it was damage by me in the end. those was bought for me to try.
