iPhone 5 won't charge after going flat

Client bought in an iP5, no charging, no power ( not even the "please plug in to charger" screen ).

Some liquid ingress, the lower liquid indicator was active, but inspection of the logic board didn't indicate any visible issues. Replaced dock assembly and battery and everything works, including charging.

Next day phone is back, same fault. Replace the battery, all works good again. Now today, it's back AGAIN.

If I plug it in to the charger that I know works it stays black screen. I know this works because when the battery was replaced it first came up with the "plug in to charger" screen and the battery was then charged up to 100%, but now nothing shows.

Home + Power button combo doesn't work.

It's strange that on the replacement of the battery the charge system works fine; but once the client has it overnight it fails with no recovery.
