If you install custom firmware, make sure your device is pwned before. Tell more about what you did exactly.

You can downgrade only with saved SHSH. Check with TinyUmbrella.
Can I install firmware version X?

Error 28:

Hardware error. Return your device to Apple if possible. The problem is a bad dock connector on the iPhone. Must change the connector.

ok....so i currently have a iphone 3gs with 4.3 which i attempted to downgrade using the customer ipsw for 4.2.1 which i downloaded.Activated lttleumbrella and done the whole irec thing aswell.as the old ios was installing through itunes, when finalising it gave me a 1015 error which according another blog i could just ignore and the downgrade will be installed.After the installation my phone did not boot up but rather stayed in dfu mode.thinking that 4.2.1 was reinstalled i went on to jailbreak the phone with greenpoison rc6,at which stage it also completed showed me the skull icon and went back into dfu mode.....now after all this hours of trying to do something that seems so simple for others,i decided to restore my iphone with itunes.I started the restore and all was going fine up until i received error 1618...which according to more other blogs means that itunes detects that an installation was started on the iphone and did not complete ie:error 1015.so now i can't restore the phone and it is constantly in dfu mode.....i need someone to please check and inform if there is anyway of me saving this iphone.

Many things:
Error 1618: Reinstall latest iTunes.
First we need to know if you have baseband version 05.13.04 or lower? If you ever installed stock firmware 4.1 or higher, then your baseband was upgraded and there is no way back.
Then I need to know if you installed 6.15 iPad baseband with redsn0w or not. If you have, you can install ONLY custom firmware in the future.
If you still have old baseband, you must continue to protect it, by only installing custom firmware.
Also, never download custom firmware, always create it yourself with sn0wbreeze for Windows or PwnageTool for Mac.
I would do these next steps:
1. Reinstall latest iTunes
2. Create a new custom firmware. Make sure to unselect hacktivation if you don't need it.
3. Put your device into DFU mode (black screen)
4. Pwn your device
5. Install cfw with iTunes
6. activate with iTunes

so just to inform.....got the phone up and running again...thx https for the comment but all i was required to do was reinstall itunes,deactivate the antivirus and firewall and the phone restored in itunes....but it still ain't jailbroken....firmware is now 05.16.01 version 4.3.Any comments on how i can go about jailbreaking it now?
