First restore with custom firmware ... if don't work check mainboard for water damage

For those affected by a short battery lifespan either on the iPhone 3G or the iPhone 3GS, in order to conserve some energy, Push Notifications can be turned off from the Setting menu. Turning off Bluetooh (Settings>General) and Wi-Fi can also help with that. As a last resort, 3G connectivity can be turned off from Settings>General>Network. But is crippling your phone's connectivity really the best way to longer battery life?

The simplest ways to get improved iPhone 3GS battery life are:

* Keep your iPhone 3GS near room temperature and out of the sun
* Avoid heavy use of applications that use location services such as Maps - disable location services by going to Settings > General > Location Services.
* Fetch new data less frequently
* Turn off push email and auto-check fewer email accounts
* Turn off Wi-Fi. However, if you use your iPhone to access the internet for long periods of time, choosing Wi-Fi over 3G may use less battery power.
* Turn off Bluetooth when not in use.
* Adjust screen brightness: either dim the screen or turn on Auto Brightness to allow the screen to adjust its brightness based on current lighting conditions.
* Turn off EQ in iPod settings.
* Turn off 3G. You will still be able to make and receive calls and access cellular data networks via Edge or GPRS where available.

Try software and if is not good see water damage and clean-it.

If same, replace battery.

50% is software.

iphone 3gs consume battery

thanks to all those who replies. all the way u all teaching here i have used it. battery changed before . set have been open n checked that are no liquid immersed . close all wifi or 3 g while not using it . but the problem still there . answer call battery FLAT. once battery flat . u cant even recharge it . u need to unplug the battery to the other iphone to charge till around 20 or 30 % then u transfer back then it can be charged normally .

What replacement battery did you use? There is a difference between 3g and 3gs battery. 3g batt will turn iphone 3gs on, but wont indicate battery level properly. Will show full, but switch off during call.
