Hi, I've been following this thread and am trying to sort through what are the facts and what are just theories.

Can anyone summarise only the facts.

What is the actual documented change in the 3GS that makes the downgrading and/or iPad flashing unstable?

How do we strictly (not guess or guess tool method) identify where the change is?

How can we avoid it, and what, if any are confirmed solutions or alternative methods and remedies.

ps the tool everyone references is nice and all but doesn't really tell anything.. because it is based off speculation rather than fact. eg, where is the actual cut off, and how do we strictly identify it? even with new bootrom vs old, we use serial as a guide only, to actually confirm we look at bootrom 359.3 vs 359.3.2..

thanks to everyone who has put time into this.

@JPWEST

to clear up a few things that have been posted:
  • There is no new bootrom in 3gs,
  • No need to worry about any 3G (production stopped)
  • No change with week 9 3gs
  • no toshiba baseband

http://s7.postimage.org/o3i9q4ydz/week38.jpg

If you look at the picture above can clearly see baseband NOR (below baseband processor) labelled as 36MY1EH rather than the 36MY1EE found on prior revisions.

May be able to directly check change with software; but only method I'm aware of you would need to jailbreak the phone first and complete an extra step in order to extract that information- bit of a tedious process.

Opening the handset and checking the component with your eyes takes ~1 min

This can be fixed with hardware, personally I have tested. As far as a *possible* fix without opening the phone goes, there are a few people working on it, but the time is limited amongst other projects- (and most important: availability of bricked devices in hand) no guarantees ;)

There is any solution for this mistake?
