just went to GCProkey.com and ordered a GC pro box from GPG industries, this is the same as the dongle right? I like the box more because its bigger and harder to lose

It's the same but GCPROKEY much better because sometime you need use cable. Rj45

I use the z3x or bst adapter....sometimes one doesn't work so switch.

I have the dongle(GC Pro Key), can you use Uart cable with the dongle if so how?

you cannot use uart cable with gcpro dongle.
That is why the GCPRO box is the better option. Since it comes with all the hardware (box, uart interface, uart cables)

If you already have gcpro dongle, then get an empty uart box (from any team (z3x, octo, etc) try ebay

If you have the GCPROKEY DONGLE, You need to have another box with UART Cable Support (such as Z3X Box) plugged into the computer while using the dongle. So you have GCPROKEY AND Z3X BOX plugged into PC at same time. Then GCPROKEY will use UART from z3X box port
