Member: 348680 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 1,273 | Improve your Cyclone Box you need a good quality 5V 1.5 ~ 2 A switching power supply ( i use one from my Linksys PAP2T ATA ) and need to do next mod in your Cyclone Box: 1- Lift diode D6 near DC VPP socket ( lift anode lead only ) 2- Remove solder jumper between leads 1 and 2 of the U1 (that is not installed ) 3- Make a jumper between the point where is soldered the D6 anode ( it is conected to VPP + V socket ) and the pin 2 of the U1 thats all.... with this mod you loose the external VPP function, but solve the Power & Local mode issue. VERY IMPORTANT !!!! Use ONLY 5V DC Power suply, positive at center pin, conected to the Box DC (in box says AC) socket, otherwise you KILL YOUR BOX Remember to conect first the DC power supply, then the USB cable, to get the box working properly.... If you want the 9V VPP, you can add the 5 to 9V DC-DC converter posted by MiH in this thread: http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/show...=705261&page=2 Doing this mod you are voiding your box warranty Hope this help somone.... BR sorry my bad eng. Last edited by ptt; 01-10-2010 at 16:47. |

Member: 112131 Status: Offline Sonork: 1582257 Thanks Meter: 80 | ptt... Some questions.... * What you do is eliminate the Diode D6.. And remove the Jumper between pins 1 and 2 of U1... Then make a jumper between D6 anode and pin 2 of the U1... * Is there any need why 5v isn't enough???? I mean with 5v is Ok??? * You said this way eliminate VPP external.. What does this mean is that I will no longer could Use VPP??? CycloneRobot... * Is this modification good?? Opinions BR Last edited by Hell-GSM; 06-09-2009 at 20:49. Reason: more questions!! |

Member: 348680 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 1,273 | @ Hell-GSM i don`t eliminate, just disconect it (lift from PCB), and remove "jumper solder" between pins 1 & 2 of U1 ( U1 is not installed ) and put a piece of cable conecting te point where is conected the anode of D6 and pin 2 of U1.... I say 5V 1.5 ~ 2 A good quality switching power supply, to repalce the power supplied by the USB port of the PC... I think most problems are related to power suppiled by the PC and the use of bad quality cables.... yes, if you do this mod, and use the DC socket of the box you loose the external VPP function (only external), unles you add the module posted by MiH in this thread: http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/show...=705261&page=2 or other similar..... or you can put another DC socket for supplie external power to the box, and left the VPP part untouched... Espero haber aclarado tus dudas.... Saludos @ moderators sorry for post in spanish, but i think can explain better in spanish BR |

Member: 112131 Status: Offline Sonork: 1582257 Thanks Meter: 80 | thanks.... Your solution is good.... When I said remove D6 was exactly that.. Just disconnect from the circuit... I like the Idea of DC-DC 5v to 9v... Is a very nice one.. I have a couple of Networks Card flying around.. I will look into the post you refer to... Thanks Again and let hope what CyclonRobot says about... Me decido a hacerlo y posteo fotos... Gracias ... |

Member: 28188 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 579 | Better is to convert 9v (DC VPP)> 5v (Vbat). The above solution need to have a powerful 5v supply and it loses the vpp. I think it is better To replace the solder jumper on the U1 by a diod from 1 Vin -> 2 Vout) To add a lm7805 (input: D6 cathod, Output U1 Pin 2) However there is many other mods like modded powerd usb cable A To B Powered adapter for Vbat with Vpp supply Best Regards |

Member: 348680 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 1,273 | You can use 9V input, and convert to 5V with LM7805, but it is a 1A linear voltage regulator, and you need to ad a good heatsink to avoid the 7805 die, and i think that is more easy to find a 5V 2A good quality switching power suply, than a 9V, and the DC-DC converter (5 to 9V) not drain much power, and generates less heat than 7805... you can get the 5V PS from a Router, Wireless AP or router, VOIP ATA, etc..... many computer related devices 5V PS or you can get 5V from the 4 pin Molex PC peripheral power connector ( red Wire ) BR |

Member: 117496 Status: Offline Sonork: 100.83919 Thanks Meter: 22,689 | Any given modification is good, however i recommend not involing in box hw (due to warranty) better is to make combo USB cable which will deliver 1000mA and can be used to any product on market (jaf, hwk). |

Member: 91045 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 8,696 | As he Said to make COMBO-USB cable. It will be universal for any box, and it will deliver at least 1000mA. The idea is to make paraller V_USB_5V connection, so voltage will be still 5V but maximum current will be increased to ~1000mA. If you know what i mean, Input: 2 usb ports from PC/notebook Output - USB_B (same used in common boxes) Of course if we talk about voltage, BSI is other story, |
