Can I update also?

Guys,

Iīm from Brazil, I just bought my Nokia 5310 last week and Iīm interested in the 5.81 firmware for my phone.

It is a RM-303 Red and it currently has V3.63. Itīs code under the battery is: 0559871

I followed the guide in the first post, but when looking for the files to delete in the referred folder i the guide, the filed I found were:
rm303__03.63.mcusw
rm303__03.63.ppm_l
rm303__03.63_ISM_001.image_l_red_5310_TIM

TIM is the name of my cel phone company, and only the first file I listed has the same name as flamekeeper posted, the other ones have similar sizes but different names. I didnīt rename the files from the zip I to the similar ones because Iīm afraid to get a paperweight

1) Can anyone tell me if itīs secure, in my case, to rename the files and update my cell phone? Or should I only wait for it to come available from Nokia?

I deleted the downloaded files in the folder, placed the ones from the zip and clicked the retry button in the NSU without renaming the files, but it started downloading it all again..

2) What is the SIM code? Is it the PIN of the SIM card?

Congrats to flamekeeper and everybody else that may come and help all of use

Hello richiricherd,

Thanks for the file. Those 2 files now have the exact same name as 2 of the ones the NSU had downloaded, but I havenīt flashed yet.

Can you, or someone who is sure, confirm to me the following?

1) The third file the NSU donwload for my phone has a very different name then the one in the rar file flamekeeper posted ( it even has the name of the cell phone operator I use ). Can I simply rename and flash? Is it really safe?

2) What is the SIM code? Is it the PIN of the SIM card?

Once again, thanks to everyone.

Do not rename the third file, that containe your operator logoes and themes, just let it like it is..
and yes sim code is the pin of the simcard, the phone will ask for it when update has finished only if you have that option activated.. however that code is 0000 by defect

Hi there guys!

Iīm just posting here to thank immensely thansk flamekeeper and richiricherd ( and google also for bringing me here ) for the tutorial and the special files for Latin languages.

I followed the tutorial and everything worked fine. After the download, the update proccess was quite fast and now my 5310 already has fimware v 5.81. Thanks guys!

1) The only funny thing is that after the update and reboot, my cell did not ask for the PIN number, it just booted.

2) After the update process my cell phone lost some stuff: configs I made, and my contacts - it only had operatorīs default service numbers.
On the other hand, no pictures or received files ( bluetooth ) got lost from the cell phone memory. Nothing lost in the expasion card.

3) I took a backup of configs and contacts with the appropriate nokia software, but it only set back the contacts

But it was worth. Thanks guys!

With this code you won't have to do anything else but to let NSU normally upgrade your phone. Latter you can change back your original Product Code.
I'm trying to update a Canadian (RM-304) phone to 5.91. I tried using the 0558555 Product Code suggested here, but the NSU didn't find any updates. I can't find a list of RM-304 Product Codes to try, could you suggest one? If you need it the letters at the end of language information are NR0.

Thanks

Courtesy of flamekeeper: Use NSS to change your Product Code to 0558988 if your phone is blue or 0551710 if it's red and then update normally using NSU.

Worked for me.

Sidenote: the update wiped all my carrier (Rogers) customizations and settings. Had to use this to get the web browser working again: http://www.omegacell.com/help.htm

Thanks guys for the hard work.

I'm on t-mobile and my phone code was 0558989 (red). I tried to follow the directions but can't get NSU to see any updates. Every time it says there were no updates (I don't even get the reinstall option). Would it be wise to reset my code to 0558989, then run the update and stop it at ~26% and continue the tutorial there?

Any other suggestions are also welcome.

Edit: Should I try using 0551710 like Sandbox Wizard suggests? I'm not sure what I'd have to do to get the web browser working if the same thing happened to me.

I can't edit my post again so I'll recap what I did as I want as many t-mobile customers to be free from the tyranny of big business in the land of the free. I ended up using 0551710 as flamekeeper via Sandbox Wizard suggested. I did not follow the tutorial in the OP. Perhaps this deserves its own thread in another forum.

Anyways,

I first made a backup of my settings on the 5310. Then I changed the product code to 0551710 using NSS. I ran NSU and updated the firmware normally. This was the only Product Code out of about a dozen that I tried which let me re-install the firmware. Once re-installed, I just restored from my backup and t-zones wap settings worked with Opera Mini and the like.

Dear flamekeeper,
Everything was going alright until step no. 17, when I had to reconnnect the USB cable and click the button in the NSU. When I clicked the update button, it didn't work at first, I had to click it for more than 10 times until it finally started to update.
Meanwhile there was a message saying that the phone was being updated, the status bar remained in blank. And after more than 40 mins. without any changes in the status bar, I decided to disconnect the USB cable.

Then I tried to repeat the whole process, but there's a little problem now: the NSS software SCAN button doesn't recognize my mobile phone (in lower left status bar there's a message saying "scan of product ... Error".

Any solutions?

Thanks in advance from Barcelona. (next time I'll write to you in spanish ...)

Sounds like you have a locked phone, buy codes to unlock it. Debranding will not remove the lock placed by Virgin.

little name prob

so, i have followed those exact steps, and when i reach the part where i disconnect the phone and replace the files with those from the archive i see that they do not have the same name, even worse the original ones(those that the program downloaded) are for version 5.81 , in fact in nsu i see something like current phone version : 3.36 and update version : 5.81 so it wants to update to 5.81 without me replacing the files from the archive. And i don't know what to do(update without the files from the archive? or change the names?). I would really appreciate some help!, Thanks!
