Hi,

Thanks for the offer, but we have our own FPS-10. The thing about emulating is
that equals to making standalone flasher in Genie, then just re-routing Phoenix
commands to Genie. As you know FPS-10 is fully finished computer, running Linux,
it has a lot of RAM (to hold flash files and loaders), drivers, flashing application,
etc.

Genie is bit underpowered to emulate this box in efficient manner. It could be
done just for the fun of it, but i don't think will be a great emulator as it will
not match the speed and the stability of this box.

Then why not do the following:

1) Clone & encapsulate the linux computer into a VMWare appliance.

2) In the VM: patch the interface drivers of it, to talk to a COM port instead (with a protocol of your choice). Include some out-of-band commands for remote-control of the VM (shutdown, etc).

3) On the host: Create a virtual COM port and attach it to the VM. Talk the same protocol, and map it to a physically connected box (like JAF or Genie).

4) Create a small GUI shell to auto-control the VM and manage the physical interface.

5) Bundle all into a single installer.

That should do it, except for the copyright issues (seeing that you offer Phoenix and flashfile downloads already, this probably won't bother you much).

Best regards

very interessting way
but i think it is a lot easyer to make a 3th party flasher software for it...

They must just complete the nemesis suite and support genie in it.. The on line firmware support is an easy job (sample is navfirm about).
After it just put everything together and the job is done.

I still remember some promises - 'Do the FLS-5 emu - there will be crazy Genie
sales'. Result - 1000 devices sold for 1 year

Off-course development - fully financed by our company. The only help we got
- one orig FLS-5 device (which is less then 0.0001 % of the total expense to
make this emulator)

Then updates are needed - again our company had to foot the bill. Just wonder
why if we don't even get % from Genie sales.

I also remember other promises - make Virtual Com emulator - there will be
a lot of soft for it, even SE tool will work on Genie. So i was doing first no TP
BB5 unlock with Cinek (maybe the hottest SW in the universe at that time).
I took 1 month off from the work(just calculate 1 month delay of such a soft
in money) to work on stupid virtual com port. All done, then
sales generated - 0 off course, cool soft released for it - only 1.

Anyway, if i have time i will fix FLS-5 to support latest phones or will make
3th party flasher, or make standalone flasher as script, etc. Right now i have
some unfortunate family problems and can work only 4 hours a day, and i
use them to finish our SL3 unlock solution. Everything else can wait as is not
that urgent.

BR, Alex
Don't forget to support for Certificate Rebuild in SL3 Phones too....

Hi,

It's a nice idea, but here few reasons why it will not work:

1. If you open FPS-10 you will see big, fat FPGA. This what makes the FPS-10
good flasher, not the Linux. I this the box sends 4 bytes per 2-3 uS to the phone. Windows at best can handle 15 uS via FLS-5 via 480 Mbits USB, and
this is on sunny days only.

2. VMWARE have really bad support for HW devices. For example on Windows
and Linux hosts using USB only mass storage devices will work properly (sometimes). If you install Phoenix in VMWARE and try FBUS - it works fine,
but flashing will always give errors. So even if we work out the VMWARE
bugs, the flashing will be 20 times slower then FPS-10

Hi,

If its that good that no byte is dropped on 20 MB async USB transfer, then ok, but
as everything is RSA signed in the firmware, any error in the drivers will mean
failed flashing (VMWARE case).

Hi,

It is up to Alim. We have public SDK for more then a year. If its easier to him
to reverse engineer packed win32 executable to have MTBOX support than
using few APIs from our SDK - i can't do a thing about it.
