T-Mobile Android G1 Unlock. Please Help

Hi forum members, i have a T-mobile android G1 sent to me from US. i purchased the unlock code online and inputted it and it worked ok.

however a gmail screen appears requesting for signing in or creating a new account.

however when i follow the instructions and execute, i'm prompted to wait whiles it connects to the servers and this always fails.

I'm way outside the US, so how do i go about bypassing this gmail thing??

Any help in going about this will be greatly appreciated.

thanx to all and best regards

pls like in my country I cant connect to network except i send "settings" to network provider then they send back sms settings to my phone before i can be connected to network to browse.

In such case what do i do or is there a way I can bypass all this and connect by wifi to internet, because I did all the settings correctly but could not connect to internet?

thanks
