Chk with multimeter if not short that capacitors,if short unsolder & replace them.
Thanks for the advice!
I desoldered and removed the smallest component (capacitor?) on the board in that area, and as soon as I did, the ipod powered on and appears to be working well!
Hopefully it will be ok since I don't have a replacement component at this time.

iPhone 3G proximity sensor glowing red

Hi,

I am not sure if someone has ever seen this problem. But I have an iPhone 3G which had a broken connector 3 and replaced it all seemed fine and also checked resistance on each pin and GND points 4 and 12. However I am having this problem after about 5 minutes the phone is turned on (glowing red proximity sensor next to earpiece) see atthaced

I already tried with an orig prox cable. This problem happened after the short.

One thing to notice is that after almost 6 hours switched off I switched back on and after 1 hour and counting the problem is not there now...

How about I replace again connector 3?

Can you show in photo what pins were short?
Because 4 pin is gnd & 2 pin is for earpiece i don't think this will cause the issue.
Pin 5 is for prox vdd led pwr.

Yeah I know pin 5 for led power. However you are right 2 is for earpiece...don't know why it was acting this way

Chk D5_AP if not missing, short or damaged.
If this diode is in place it must show with multimeter switched to diodes testing
190 with red to line of diode black to other solder pad, vice versa it sow nothing
if it read like this it is good.

This could be either a problem in your sim or a software problem. I would first start by putting the sim in another mobile and check, then if it also do the same check with your carrier. If on the other hand works, restore the phone and setup as a new phone in iTunes
