Use Chip Quik solder and a hairdryer to remove the old one. do the same in reverse to fix new one in place.

Otherwise contact him if you have bought a coil from him , he can recommend a company who can install it for you if you don't feel confident, but you have to buy the coil from him first. Works a treat though.

I'm in the UK???

I just buy the part from Farnell United Kingdom | world-leading distributor of electronic and maintenance, repair and operations products..

Using a solder station I remove the faulty coil then resolder the new coil.

You do not need any special equipment just a good temperature controlled solder iron and good solder.

If you want I can fix it for you if you're in the UK.....PM me

I very weary of this, the part you identify is a panasonic one and not the same as the one apple uses at all, why would I buy this one to save a couple of pounds when I can get the exact one? Some of the basic electronic parameters are quite wrong, for example

Inductance Tolerance:± 30% not 20%
DC Resistance Max:0.35ohm not 270.0 mOhm Max
DC Current Rating:650mA not 830mA
It's not even the same dimensions.

Seems to me it makes sense to buy the correct part on ebay, to save having niggley faults later when the part does not perform... Maybe its just me but I want my iPhone fixed correctly and once and for all.

This is the closest part I have found to it so far.

I repair about 40 a month so paying £6+ for such a small component isn't possible.

Hey guys
this weekend i changed the coils out on two different 3gs's with no back light and it didn't fix my no back light problem.
Id like to try the jumper wire from the #1 near the coil to the #3 o the connector, but i want to attempt on a Iphone I own first.

what size wire is it thats used for the jumper.
And do you think it would be easier to use solder paste and hot air to make the connections. Since these are so close to other things and the chance of unsoldering something else is a possibility.

So here's what i need to know....
what size wire to use, and i suppose copper is better?
and should i use paste to do it?

Thanks so much
Tony

Hi Tinner105,

same problem here. I bought a few coils from a very smart guy in US and changed the coil - but still no backlight.

From pin 1 to pin 3 (you now what I mean) there is electrical continuity. So why it should be neccesary to do the jumper?

Regards,
Karl

I ended up getting some 30awg wire and made the jumper from 1 to 3 and they are both working now.
I ended up using solder paste to do the job. It was very tedious to say the least.
since the solder point is so small on both ends i used a sewing needle to put the paste
where it was needed. Microscope definitely helped. The paste looks like silver caviar
And i glued down the wire along its path to keep it from moving around as i did the job.
I used a very small tip on the hot air gun and was careful not to melt the connector for the LCD etc. Careful that the wire on the #3 doesn't keep the LCD cable from ******* on the connector.
I'm going to try and find some smaller wire for the next ones i do it will probably make the job easier.

PS i just got done doing another. I ohmed out the coil first and it was ok, so i jumpered the #1 to #3 and it didn't work. So for the heck of it I changed the coil and presto change Backlight now works.

Question iPhone 3G No Backlight Solution - which coil?

Did anyone know which coil must be replaced for the 3G?

There seams to be only one 100 coil near Skyworks power... module.

How can I check if the coil is ok?

220 NOT worked for me.

I will let you know if I find more coils.
A big thanks to : ronfreek : for starting the ball rolling and also to kenni978 for testing the other coils.
Fixed a water damaged no backlight 3GS with the 100 Coil from a dead 3GS. Found near the bottom of the board.
Thanks again guys.
