Exactly if the battery was a 3G one the 3GS wouldn't work from iOS4 upwards due to a change in Apple Power Management Protocol. The correct Apple Part Number for a 3GS battery is: 616-0435.

And you said with the correct 3GS battery it doesn't power on?

i tried the 0435 and it did not work...just showed the battery charge icon..even thou i tested the battery on multi meter and it shows full charge..the working phone was jail broken not by me thou..and was on ios 4.33 i think with the 3g battery in, so i am unsure as to what to do.

Showing a charge icon, means at least you are on springboard, no? What the exact problem, no power on or keeps rebooting?

ok i bought 3 phones 2 3gs 1 3g,,1 3gs worked..but random reboots but booted fine...so i thought an ios update.to 5.1 would cure that..as id read that it could..then it got stuck on error 29..more research showed error 29 was a battery issue...so bought the 0435..then it just showed battery charge icon, 2nd 3gs was water damaged..cleaned it all up..and used the working housing..battery etc to power it..but it kept rebooting every 2-3 seconds..on apple logo...so last night i put the working back in its case...powered up..put it in dfu mode..then it started to do what water damaged board had been doing...rebooting every 1-2 seconds..so i switched battery back to 0435..and showed charge icon again..but no reboots...so i am assuming its deff a battery issue..as to what battery i need now i am stumped..woulld apple be able to tell me?

I am lost after the water damaged one...could you please be more specific? As in the first 3GS which shown error 29, has been solved by replacing battery?

Could we tackle these issues phone by phone to minimize the conflicts between the issues?

yes its exactly like that. but it does not turn on at all..all i get is that charge icon.

Make sure you are charging with an Apple original wall charger rather than connected to a computer as the USB inside the computer produce less power.

So what do:
connect to wall charger leave it about: 30mins
if it is still hung on the charge screen press power + home until it reboots and check if it will go back to charging screen.

Sometimes this happens when the battery looses it's calibration it's normal

What I noticed is that this ribbon is very sensitive, can't touch the sensors with the fingers as they will damage easily by just touching them and above that suppliers sometimes have faulty batches for these ribbons just be careful from where you buy them.

Just want to make it clear for anyone that has this problem.
The best testing is done by getting an original iPhone screen assembly taken from a working iPhone and test with it. :)

thanks for info m8,i have had to order a wall charger as i never had 1, will keep you posted to let you know if it worked or not, as for the water damaged phone i jumped the green fuse as wites suggested as the fuse was missing and it reboots every 1-2 seconds, i used the casing and battery from the working 3gs to test the board (its an older battery not an 0435)..so i can only guess that it is the battery causing this..since both boards are rebooting now, every 1-2 seconds using that battery, as soon as i get the wall charger and place the new 0435 battery on charge i will be able to confirm this sure.

What the battery apn on the other case?
