Can I manage with existing cpu (dual core)?
Which is better option - two HD 6970 or one HD 6990?
What other modifications will be required to existing system (like power, cooling etc)?

Trow away hd4870 and only with hd5970 you wil got speed 3400Mhash/s

Just discovered a little "trick" that made oclHahscat-lite more stable and gpu usage to constant 99% when I use the PC for other tasks

just add into command line this parameter:

start /AFFINITY 1 oclHashcat-lite..................

For example :

start /AFFINITY 1 oclhashcat-lite32 21B1E417AF2DE6496772BCC2FE33D2593A9BB7A0:003515230478373400  -m  101 --hex-salt  --hex-charset  -n 800 --gpu-loops=1024 --output-format=1  --pw-min=15  --pw-max=15  -1  00010203040506070809  ?1?1?1?1?1?1?1?1?1?1?100060006

This option "tells" ocl to run only on one core of CPU.I'm using dualcore CPU and brings me good stability!

Test it and post results,also please tell what kind of CPU you are using...

splitt the graffics like they say above.

then calculate at 75% with card 5970 ( 75% because this card is 2x more fast than 4870x2)

there is no difference between my command line and yours as far as i can see. the command line does not work.

u must use only -d or --gpu-device= but not at once..

Best way to split your job into two cards will be this:

1)let say first card is 5970,the command will be:

about --session option...if u use it u'll be able to restore each card independently if something goes wrongIf that happened ,use this command to restore the proccess:

for 6990 proccess:

oclHashcat-lite64 --restore --session=3533910499xxxxxx_6990

..and for 5970 proccess:

oclHashcat-lite64 --restore --session=3533910499xxxxxx_5970

I hope now all is clear,have a good time using the most advanced hash_cracking tool
